You...just opened up a hell of a can of worms...

The first main concern I have...and this is blatant on this site...If we do consider porn to be illegal...where do we draw the line? there's a bit of debate as to whether some of the stuff here is porn or not. Furthermore, What about the stuff that ISN'T paid for?

I...really don't know. I can already hear the liberal and conservative sides of me bickering.

Haha, that's the point of the question! I mean, I like debates, so long as they don't devolve into personal attacks. The important things to remember here is that there are no "right" or "wrong" answers, merely opinions on the matter, and that we're also not going to change the way things are no matter how much we yell or scream about it. But as far as debating it out, even to yourself, that's fine! Have a ball.

There was a serial killer here last year who preyed on prostitutes. It sparked quite some debate on the subject.

My personal views? I think no matter what laws you pass people are going to pay each other for sex, it is called the world's oldest profession after all. While it has the perception of a victimless crime, nothing could be further from the truth. The girls who participate are rarely there by choice and they are horribly exploited and abused, at constant risk from being murdered, not to mention the dangers of the diseases that are occupational hazards for them.

If it was legalized then there would be an opportunity to impose some control on it, provide the women with a level of protection they can't have while what they do is criminalized, can be screened medically for both their own and their client's protection and some of the most unsavory things like child prostitution could be clamped down on.

I don't like how prostitution objectifies human beings, but if it were legal then maybe it could be made easier on those who work in it and maybe some vulnerable girls who could end up in a horrid situation could be saved.

None of which has got anything to do with why things are the way they are now of course. I'm just wondering if things would be better if people who do something which seems like it can't be stopped by law anyway could be in a better position if it weren't a crime. As for the reason one is legal and the other isn't my personal suspicion would be that the camera hadn't been invented when the holy books of most religions were written.

I don't know why men would seek women out like that, I'm told some do it so they can be in control, for others it's the thrill of doing something illegal, and I'm sure for others it's just shear loneliness and desperation. I don't think I could ever do something like that no matter how lonely I got but I'd not be able to condemn anybody for doing it.

As for the porn/prostitution question... it is such a difficult thing to decide on.

In a way, pornography seems less scandelous, but maybe that is only because we know it as legal.

Anyways, in my opinion, both prostitutes and porn are pretty gross~!

It's not like prostitution doesn't happen anyway.

To me: Permitting prostitution would not help STD situations, and making porn illegal would have a lot of hopeless single guys making a schedule for raping time.

In the states where prostitution is legal, they are also checked out for AIDS and STDs. The point is, it all boils down to sex exchanged for money. That's my beef. Never mind the people who WATCH pornos. I'm talking about the people starring in them. Some of your stuff there was kinda confusing... like, "If it's unfair to someone that prostitution isn't allowed but porno isn't, wanna be Africa?" I'm not sure I fully understand that. o_O
