Tracing Isn't Art

Hey, folks!

Sorry, but I came across this and I have to whore this out really quick:

[link]

How would you like it if someone directly traced an image of yours and DA didn't take it down? DA allows traces. How can tracing be allowed on an art site? It's not art.

The most common offenses are anime screenshots (especially Naruto), which are traced as vectors and then submitted here. It's really just a form of screenshot editing (and vaguely disguised art theft). As to why DA won't take these down, it's beyond me, so I'm supporting anything to get their attention on the matter.

FOR EXAMPLE: This [link] is a direct trace of this [link] . And look at all the favorites it's got (the deviant of that deviation disallows comments because she doesn't like it when people call her on her traces, or I'm sure it would have loads of comments, too). It is an insut to the artists who work hard. I guess DA thinks because it comes from an animated show, it's acceptable? No idea what's going on in their heads. It is a clear violation of copyright law.

Anyway, I had to whore that out, because I think it's wrong and needs to be changed.

And I also joined the Stop Tracing club over at ~stop-tracing and in that gallery are loads of lovely stamps with perfect messages, and some great art to boot.

<-- Be sure to read the description on this one!

I think you already know pretty well how I feel about DevArt policies and their enforcement of said policies. :) They seem to take a very lax approach unless the complainant is a paying subscriber and/or worshipped as a god by the community.

:D Thanks for putting my stuff up there and for adding the "Be sure to read the description on this one!" since that's really the most important part of it, anyway it's nice to see how others feel about this issue too, what I really don't understand is why people seem to like this traced deviations so much, even when they sometimes know it's traced. :shrug: I guess dA will do something about their policies in the regards of this when they get into some major trouble for allowing members to violate international copyright laws.

You're very welcome! :D Well, I admit that I like the results of the traced images... Sure, they're pretty. But it is THEFT. And that is UGLY. I hope DA changes its policy soon. Tracers seriously don't belong on an art site because it's not art. The most angering part is how popular those images get when they did almost nothing, versus real artists who work on stuff from start to finish and get very few visitors/favorites/comments/whatever.

I've noticed that, too. Unfortunately, I'm probably going to stick around because I don't have any other places to really pedal my art, and the more people who see it, the more potential customers I have... I'd really hate to leave such a popular place. But, on the other hand... -_-;

Yeah, what this place needs is some credible competition.
:iconheartagramfox777:
That really is horrible.DA letting you trace other's art then calling it your own :x
Infact, I just came across someone who sorta did that.They didnt really "trace" it as much as paste it onto paint and color over it D:
She then called it as her own.
~D-C4ever is the so called "artist" D: I did acknowledge that it wasnt her work.psh psh psh She calls me a bitch D<
Due to my short temper, I ended up posting some nast comments on her page ;_;
:iconchesney:
I'm easily taken by wrath, myself... People who snap for no reason get under my skin. Did you report the deviation? Because that counts as an edit and/or theft... I'll report it, to. Maybe post it on ^devart

I'm posting her bratty ass on ^devart. The bipolar comment made me laugh. I was thinking the same thing, too. How weird is she?

A kitten is on me and he smells suspiciously of poop. I hope he doesn't have any on him anywhere, because that would be bad, as he is sitting on me...
