Rob and I have been playing 1 vs. 100 on xbox live. It is extremely sobering. It's been quite the eye-opening experience, how many people get what wrong. I could understand if it were international, but this is all American players (on second thought, why am I surprised at the level of dumbassery on display?

).
50 (out of 100 - that's 50% for you math whizzes) didn't know who invented the telephone, but 100 out of 100 (100%) knew who beat Randy Orton in the latest huge WWE match.

More people knew the answer to the theme song for the sitcom "Friends" (only 3 missed it) than who knew that cigarettes contained a surgeon general's warning.

20 people didn't know O was the symbol for oxygen.

It's nice to see where our priorities are in this great country.
What are schools teaching these kids today?

(surprise, surprise, dA's bugging out again and won't let me change my mood icon for this journal. But I'm sure you can guess my mood.

It seems the real question is, "Who is Alexander Graham Bell?"

I also have no clue about the friends theme song, since I've never watched that show before. (I don't waste my time with sitcoms)
I knew EXACTLY who Alexander Graham Bell is though!
Interesting fact about AGB, he refused to have a telephone in his study because he felt that it interfered with his work as a scientist.
Seeing him mentioned in your journal compelled me to look up his wiki page.
He's quite an interesting man, it's a damn shame that most Americans put too high a priority in celebrities to care about who invented the bloody telephone.
It makes me want to cry.
Randy Orton is just an entertainer, his career will have NO impact on the future of the United states.
Paris Hilton is just a porn star, her movies and reality TV shows will NOT influence the future of the world.
I blame this shit on our lazy school systems.
I remember how it was when I used to go to school.... all black history month consisted of was the teacher putting up posters with information about people who helped shape African American civil rights.
We didn't talk about them, nor did we take time out to read about them each day.
I'd be willing to bet that most of my teachers thought that Malcolm X was about Malcolm-Jamal Warner's fight for freedom.
