Things People Do That Annoy Me

Tue Sep 29, 2009, 2:44 PM
Latest irritations are at the bottom, denoted with a star :star:

Because you guys love my rants so much (and heck, I enjoy reading them later on after I've cooled down - they're good for a chuckle), here's a collection I've been saving up of things that annoy me. Yes, I'm letting it all hang out, partly because I have some pent-up rage that I haven't let out from some of this stuff that's actually happened to me, and partly because angry posts are lulzy to read. See? I'm thinking of you, people! If I offend anyone who happens to read this, then fuck ya. :) (See how luly that was?)

This list can (and likely will) get SO much bigger, but I'm trying to keep it to general things and not specific things or people. Anyway, without further ado, may I present to you my list of:

Things People Do That Annoy Me
--------------------
:bulletred: Taking an established character (like Sonic or Simba) and giving them a different color/scar/marking/whatever and calling it totally new and unique and all yours. :| It bugs me even more when they go on and on about how it's copyright them and don't steal it and blah fucking blah - news flash! No one wants your Mary Sue! Protip: If someone can confuse it for the original character, it's not unique enough.

:bulletred: People who answer a question falsely as if they are speaking facts. Please, be sure you know what you're saying before you try to answer someone's question. Don't just tell them what you think the answer is unless you qualify that you aren't sure. I remember looking up the etymology for the phrase "off his rocker" and someone answered something along the lines of, "It means going crazy, like imagine an old person who has gone senile. They usually sit in their rocking chair, but sometimes they go crazy and get up and cavort around the house, so they are 'off their rocker'." No, just, no. Tidbit: The actual etymology most likely stems from early days of steam engine development,in particular beam engines. The beam engine rocks back and forth in a "rocker" and if pressure is incorrectly applied, it can come out of said rocker and flail about wildly, thus you can see the correlation... I hope.

:bulletred: People who feel the need to answer a posed question with something, anything, even when they don't know the answer. If I ask a question, I don't need 50 replies from other people telling me that they also don't know. If you don't know, keep your trap shut because I don't care. I'm only interested in the people who do know, so stop taking up valuable kilobytes with your pointless text.

:bulletred: Randomly changing the pronunciation of something. It went from Hiroshima to Hiroshima. It went from Demi Moore to Demi Moore. It went from Susan Sarandon to Susan Sarandon. Come on, people! Pick it and stick to it!

:bulletred: The ones of you who have been with me a while know this already most likely, but I hate it when an artist (popular or not) doesn't take the time to acknowledge comments. I suppose I could understand not acknowledging a "cool" or "Nice work!" comment, even though it only takes a second to say thank you or type a smiley face, but to ignore longer comments that are well written and were obviously thought out by someone who took the time to actually look at the work or read the story or whatever is just assholish to me and makes you seem like you're too stuck up to acknowledge the lowly. Don't be an asshole!

:bulletred: People who hold disdain for those who do something they do using a different or easier method. The first example that happens come to mind are pixel artists. I've seen a lot of people claiming "real" pixel art is done only in MS Paint, and they go around laughing at people who don't use MS Paint to make pixel work. Hey, look, if you're a masochist and prefer to use a method that's harder, fine. But don't look down your nose at people who have chosen a different method than you. It certainly doesn't make their pixel art any less "real." You act like they're cheating or something for not using Paint. Stop acting like you're better than everyone who doesn't use Paint. Not everyone uses the same programs as you to meet the same ends, so drop your holier-than-thou attitudes. Just because something takes more time or is a bit harder to do doesn't make you more of a hardcore artist, so please get over yourselves. :unimpressed:

:bulletred: People who think that just because you use a phrase, picture, or word from ED, you are a troll. I can enjoy ED without being a troll. In fact, you know what? Fuck it. I hate people who don't get what a "troll" is. It seems "troll" has a different meaning on this site than on most. Let me simplify what being a troll is on dA... Someone offered you critique on how to improve a piece and it was slightly less than an asspat? TROLL! Someone who disagrees with your viewpoint? TROLL! Someone called you out on your mistake when you made one? TROLL! Someone who likes ED? TROLL! In fact, anyone you even slightly dislike - no, no, I'm going to make this super simple for you: everyone on dA, everyone, is a troll. No exceptions.

:bulletred: Someone who says/does/draws/writes something obviously perverted and tries to flip it around on you when you call them on it. I know you've all been there before at least once, maybe in elementary school or something. For example, if someone draws an underage character in a sexy pose, and you remind them the character is only 8, they say something like, "Nuh uh, I just drew something cute, but you're the one who is perverted if you see something sexy in it." Please. You're fooling no one with your shenanigans, especially when you reply with winks and the likes to comments that say, "OMG FA FAP FAP" and "TTLY SEXY!!" :| ESPECIALLY especially when you say shit like, "mm, there might be another version of this pic but you'll never know unless you're a pervert." :| :| :|

:bulletred: People who uncheck "This is a minor update" on journals and deviations when they have either not edited them at all or have edited very little. This is especially annoying when they do this on EVERY SINGLE DEVIATION/JOURNAL THEY SUBMIT! Please stop whoring for views and comments. If you tweaked one little thing, it is a MINOR. UPDATE.

:bulletred: People who think they've got all society's problems figured out because they know how they are. I've seen it too many times. Someone proposes some ridiculous "solution" to apply to whole population (for example, "throw the guy in jail for 40 years because he was talking on his cell while driving and killed someone - that's what we should do to everyone who kills a person from driving while talking on cell phones") on the grounds that they behave a certain way while in that situation (for example "Because I can't drive for crap if even one of my hands is off the wheel of a car!")
Look. Asshole. Just because you can't drive while one of your hands is off the wheel doesn't mean every single person starts weaving and swerving like a maniac on the road if they have a hand off the wheel. Just because you can't trust yourself to use a gun right doesn't mean every single other person in your country shouldn't be allowed to own guns either. Just because you might skip school if you had a car doesn't mean every other teenager who has a car will skip school with it. I don't care if it takes a crowbar, you people need to pry open your minds a bit and realize everyone is different, and in fact most people are probably not like you at all, therefore your grand solutions should be applied to yourselves, and only yourselves.

:star:

:bulletred: People who make a big deal about refusing to fill out the "current residence" field on dA's profile due to imaginary stalkers. Filling out the "current residence" field with a generic description of your area is NOT going to flood you with stalkers. I can't stand you pompous pricks who fill that field in with shit like, "I don't need any more stalkers! I have had too many of those already!" It is highly unlikely that you will ever be in your lifetime truly stalked, let alone multiple times. You are not important enough for people to drop their shit and come knocking on your door, especially because they saw some shit you put up on a random website. My anger at your bullshit is compunded when you have a gallery full of myspace photos of yourself. How can you claim you want no more stalkers while you whore yourself out in such a manner? You know what I think? I think you fucking want to be stalked because any attention is better than none and nothing would stroke your e-dick more than to have someone as obsessed with you as you are.

 Exactly!

That was actually inspired by seeing something by someone on here not long ago (I shan't say who, for I can't remember, and I shan't say what, for I don't want them to sic their hounds on me), and it actually started the entire list of things that annoy me. :giggle: If I could find it again, I'd send it to you in a note though.

Oh, God.... I hate it, you see this beautiful piece, and then it's just

"..."

:|

Maybe I need to add that. I usually tell them when I see that that it really ruins the piece. One person argued with me that the work should speak for itself, and it was pointless to say "it's a unicorn" because people can see what it is for themselves. I said, "Yes, but you can tell us things we can't see, like what inspired the piece, how long it took, what media you used, how you achieved XYZ effect, etc." There is always something to be said, and "..." makes me either suspicious that the person is either lazy, an art thief, or fishing for as many compliments s/he can get.

"..." is not even a good placeholder. Sometimes people say, "I put that until I have time to write a proper description." No! Then put "Proper description coming soon."

AUGH! Anything but "..." and "--"
:frustrated:

See, you've worked me up all over again.

A kitten is on me and he smells suspiciously of poop. I hope he doesn't have any on him anywhere, because that would be bad, as he is sitting on me...
